Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate aggravated assault – suspect charged

Fort McMurray, Alta – On June 25, 2026, at approximately 10:26 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of an assault on MacDonald Avenue, in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. A physical altercation occurred between two subjects known to each other. During the altercation, the victim was struck by a vehicle driven by the suspect. The suspect fled following. The incident was not initially reported to police.
Approximately two hours later, the suspect returned and assaulted the victim with a hammer, at which point police were called. Upon RCMP arrival, the suspect was arrested without incident. The victim was transported by EMS to the Northern Lights Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. RCMP have since obtained surveillance footage of both incidents.
A 34-year-old resident of Spruce Grove is facing charges of Aggravated assault. The individual was held for a judicial interim release hearing. They remain in custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 27, 2026.
