Cold Lake Crime Reduction Unit makes arrest in series of business break and enters-update

Cold Lake, Alta. – In early July 2026, Cold Lake RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) launched an investigation into a spree of break and enters targeting businesses in the downtown core. Since early June, Cold Lake RCMP had responded to 16 reported break and enter occurrences, causing significant concern among local business owners in the community.  

On July 9, 2026, Cold Lake CRU, with the assistance of Cold Lake General Investigation Section (GIS), Cold Lake RCMP detachment, and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), executed a search warrant on a residence in the 5000 block of 47 Street in Cold Lake, Alta. 

As a result of the investigation a 42-year-old resident of Cold Lake, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

• Break and enter to commit theft (x5);
• Break and enter with intent (x2);
• Mischief damage to property (x1); and
• Wear disguise with intent (x8). 

Following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing, the individual was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear on July 13, 2026, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche. 

Cold Lake RCMP would like to extend our sincere thanks to the businesses throughout our downtown core for their cooperation and assistance in providing surveillance footage. 

“Your willingness to work with investigators played an important role in advancing this investigation and ultimately led to an arrest. We recognize the significant impact this suspect’s actions had on our local business community,” says Constable Jordan Walker of the Cold Lake Crime Reduction Unit. “Affected businesses should expect to hear from Cold Lake RCMP in the coming weeks for further follow- up as the court case progresses”.
