Okotoks RCMP respond to drowning of individual near campground

Foothills County, Alta. – On Aug. 1, 2026, at approximately 12:23 p.m., Okotoks RCMP received a report of a missing swimmer in the water at the Nature’s Hideaway campground.

Witnesses reported a 35-year-old  resident of Mexico, had jumped off a cliff into the water and failed to resurface.

Okotoks RCMP along with Foothills Fire and Emergency Services attended the area where the individual was located in the water with the assistance of the Calgary Police HAWKS helicopter, however, was pronounced deceased. The deceased has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The RCMP offer our sincerest condolences to family, friends, and the community. 

Okotoks RCMP is strongly urging the public to avoid cliff jumping due to serious risks including underwater rock hazards not visible to the surface and strong currents.
