Proactive traffic stop results in 45 criminal charges and significant seizure of firearms and drugs

Hinton, Alta. – On July 26, 2026, Hinton RCMP officers conducted a proactive traffic stop in the Hinton area. Grounds were formed regarding criminal activity and the two individuals within the vehicle were arrested. A subsequent judicially authorized search resulted in the seizure of:
- Two firearms, including one confirmed stolen from Manitoba;
- Approximately 106 grams of suspected cocaine;
- Multiple prohibited weapons, including a conducted energy weapon;
- Hundreds of rounds of ammunition and firearm magazines;
- Body armour;
- Drug paraphernalia and items consistent with drug trafficking; and
- Electronic devices and other evidence relevant to the investigation.
As a result of the investigation a 39-year-old resident of Grande Prairie, Alta., was charged with 27 offences while a 39year-old resident of Edmonton, was charged with 18 offences, including:
- Possession of stolen property;
- Possession of controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking;
- Possession of prohibited weapon;
- Carrying concealed weapons; and
- Multiple other firearm-related offences.
Both were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Hinton on Aug. 5, 2026.
“This investigation is an outstanding example of proactive policing preventing crime before it impacts our community” said Staff Sergeant Mark Hall, Detachment Commander of the Hinton RCMP. “Our officers identified suspicious circumstances, conducted a thorough investigation and removed illegal firearms, suspected drugs, body armour and other dangerous items from circulation. Importantly, the individuals charged are not from the Hinton area, and this investigation reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe through proactive enforcement.”
