Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate stabbing – suspect charged

Fort McMurray, Alta – On Aug. 10, 2026, at approximately 8:49 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing near the A&W, located on Franklin Avenue in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. 

Prior to police arrival the suspect fled in an Orange Nissan Kicks. The victim was transported to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with minor, non life-threatening injuries.  

 Video footage was obtained by police, and a description of the suspect was obtained. 

The Nissan Kicks and suspect were quickly located, and the suspect was arrested without incident.

A 61-year-old resident of Fort McMurray is facing charges:

• Assault causing bodily harm
• Uttering threats
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The individual was held in police custody to appear for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. They have since been released from custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Sept. 16, 2026.
