Wood Buffalo RCMP respond to break and enter – suspect charged

Fort McMurray, Alta – On Aug. 13, 2026, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence on Pond Crescent, in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. It was reported the suspect was banging on the door to be let in and when denied by the residents, broke the glass pane and gained entry. A verbal confrontation occurred and the suspect fled on foot.  

Police found a trail of blood and footprints leading away from the residence and were able to locate the suspect in a nearby neighbourhood. The suspect was arrested without incident. During the break in, the suspect injured themselves, resulting in the blood being left behind. The injury was minor in nature and medical attention was not required.  

The suspect and victims were not known to each. 

As a result, a 26-year-old resident of Fort McMurray is facing a charge of break and enter. 

The individual was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has since been released from police custody. They are set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Aug. 26, 2026.
