Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate drug trafficking, suspect charged

Fort McMurray, Alta. - On August 27^th, 2026, Wood Buffalo Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) were patrolling the downtown area of Fort McMurray when they conducted a traffic stop near the Richard Street area. An individual was observed driving while using a cellular device. Observations made during the traffic stop caused CRU to enter into a drug investigation. The driver was subsequently arrested without incident. 

Police located and seized:

• 67 grams of suspected cocaine; and
• $2,600 in Canadian Currency.

A 35-year-old resident of Edmonton is facing charges of Trafficking. The individual was held for a judicial interim release hearing and released from custody on a Release Order with conditions. They are set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Sept. 29, 2026.

"The effects of drug trafficking extend far beyond those directly involved in the drug trade. Illegal drugs contribute to crime, victimization, and community harm," said Inspector Mike Robinson, Investigative Services Officer of the Wood Buffalo RCMP. "This arrest reflects the dedication of our officers to addressing drug-related activity and improving community safety. We remain committed to disrupting those who profit from the sale of illegal drugs and encourage residents to report suspicious activity to police."
