Wood Buffalo RCMP respond to theft of vehicle – youth charged

Fort McMurray, Alta – On Sept. 13, 2026, at approximately 2:11 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray. The stolen vehicle, a 2008 black Buick Allure, was stolen from Comeau Crescent.

Police quickly located the stolen vehicle driving northbound on highway 63, north of the Parsons Creek exit. A traffic stop was attempted but the driver fled from police driving at a high rate of speed.  Due to public safety, a pursuit was not initiated by RCMP. 

Police continued to make patrols, including returning to Comeau Crescent, and observed the vehicle had been parked back in the owner’s driveway. A male youth was located walking near by, detained and police located several stolen items, including the keys for the Buick Allure, in his possession. 

A 16-year-old male resident of Fort McMurray is facing charges:

• Theft of motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Flight from a peace officer

The suspect, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from police custody on an Undertaking and is set to Appear in the Albert Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Oct. 20, 2026.
