Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to threats, suspect arrested

Fort McMurray, Alta. – On Sept. 15, 2026 at 10:40 pm, Wood Buffalo RCMP, along with Wood Buffalo RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) responded to a concern for wellbeing in downtown Fort McMurray. The suspect was located by Police in the 9000 block of Franklin Avenue and when Police attempted the engage with the suspect, they made threats to harm the Police. 

RCMP contained the area, attempted deescalation attempts and utilized less than lethal weapons without success. RCMP then deployed Police Service Dog Rookie and the adult was successfully apprehended, sustaining minor injuries. They were transported to Northern Lights Regional Health Center for treatment. 

Wood Buffalo RCMP continue to investigate the incident. RCMP encourage the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity to police. Reports tell us where to look, who to look for, and where to patrol in the future. If you see a crime in progress, dial 9-1-1.
