Strathcona County RCMP on scene of multi-vehicle collision- update

Strathcona County, Alta.- On Sept. 19, 2026, at 8:57 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 16 between Range Road 220 and Range Road 221, in Strathcona County, Alta. 

The collision involved four pick-up trucks, three heading westbound on Highway 16, and one heading eastbound in the westbound lane on Highway 16. Strathcona County RCMP, Fire and EMS attended the scene. 

The drivers and occupants of the three westbound pick-up trucks sustained minor injuries. One individual was transported to hospital as a precaution. 

The driver, and lone occupant of the eastbound pick-up truck, a 66-year-old resident of Gibbons, Alta, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. They were transported to hospital where they unfortunately, succumbed to their injuries. 

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. 

The Alberta RCMP extends our condolences to the family and friends of the injured and the deceased.
