Peace River, Alta. – On Sept. 18, 2026, Peace River RCMP, assisted by Alberta RCMP Police Dog services, responded to a call regarding an impaired driver who uttered threats to shoot a member of the public as well as police. The suspect was believed to have a shotgun with him. Peace River RCMP located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but the suspect fled. Alberta RCMP RTOC was engaged and approved the use of a tire deflation device, which was successfully deployed. The vehicle kept moving forward and, given the gravity of the threats, the vehicle was rammed and the suspect was taken into custody. The Alberta RCMP PDS member was injured during the ramming and arrest. The suspect sustained minor injuries from a dog bite during the arrest and was treated immediately. A shotgun was found in the rear of the suspect vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old resident of Peace River, was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Uttering threats (x2);
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Flight from police; and
  • Resists police.

The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on Oct. 5, 2026.
