Whitecourt, Alta. - On Sept. 11, 2026, Whitecourt Traffic members were conducting rural highway patrols near Whitecourt when they checked a known location where stolen copper wire had reportedly been stripped.

While investigating the area, officers located a suspicious vehicle occupied by two individuals. A traffic stop was conducted and officers identified one of the occupants as a known prolific offender who had recently been released from custody on unrelated charges.

Further investigation revealed the individual was in breach of court-ordered release conditions and they were subsequently arrested. During the arrest, officers located a small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a can of bear spray. The individual was brought before a justice of the peace, who remanded them into custody. They were then released on conditions on Sept. 15, 2026.

Just three days later, on Sept. 18, 2026, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services members were requested to assist a Whitecourt RCMP officer during a traffic stop. Upon arriving, officers determined the same offender was once again failing to comply with release conditions. They were arrested and police once again located drugs and bear spray in the offender's possession.

As a result of the investigation the resident of Whitecourt, has been charged with:

  • Weapons-related charges (x4);
  • Fail to comply with release order (x4);
  • Driving while unauthorized;
  • Possession of a controlled substance; and
  • One cannabis act related charge.

The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on October 13, 2026.

"This investigation highlights the ongoing efforts of our Alberta RCMP Traffic officers to proactively target crime on Alberta's roadways and hold repeat offenders accountable," said Sgt. Greg Anderson, NCO i/c of AB RCMP Traffic-Whitecourt Unit. "The quick actions of our members helped identify repeated breaches and remove an offender from the community."
