Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. — Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is reminding drivers that every second counts during an emergency. Pulling over quickly and safely directly improves local crisis response times, ensuring that police, firefighters, and paramedics can reach those in need without delay.

Follow these 4 quick tips when a police cruiser or emergency vehicle approaches from behind:

  • Signal & Move Right: Put your signal on and safely pull over to the closest right-hand curb.
  • Never Slam the Brakes: Avoid braking suddenly in the middle of a lane—keep moving predictably until you can pull over.
  • Stop Completely: Bring your vehicle to a full stop parallel to the curb, clear of any intersections.
  • Stay Parked: Wait until the vehicle passes completely and ensure no other responders are following behind.

Additionally, drivers are reminded protect emergency personnel and roadside workers by slowing down to 60 km/h (or less if the posted speed limit is lower) and safely move over a lane when passing any stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights active.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP would like to thank all residents for their continued cooperation in keeping our roads safe and helping our emergency crews respond to calls quickly and securely.
