Wetaskiwin RCMP on scene at serious collision – Update #2

Wetaskiwin County, Alta. – On Oct. 3, 2026, at 11:38 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP was dispatched to a report of a multi vehicle collision on Highway 2 at Highway 616. RCMP was notified that a Sheriff’s vehicle was involved. Upon arrival it was determined that there was a total of four vehicles in the collision. 

Initial investigation shows that the Sheriff had pulled over an offender in the left lane of Highway 2. The Sheriff was in their vehicle when they were rearended by another vehicle. During the collision, two other vehicles were hit. Thankfully, there were only minor injuries.  

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the northbound lanes of Highway 2 were closed for some time. The investigation is ongoing.
