RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating suspicious death in Ponoka County – Update #2

Ponoka County, Alta. - On Feb. 24, 2026, Ponoka RCMP located a deceased 92-year-old outside their residence and the circumstances surrounding their death appeared suspicious. An autopsy confirmed the manner of death was a homicide. RCMP Major Crimes was called in to investigate. 

As a result of extensive investigation, a 48-year-old and a 19-year-old both residents of Maskwacis, have been charged with the second-degree murder.

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the 19-year-old was remanded to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on Oct. 6, 2026. The 48-year-old was remanded to appear in Albert Court of Justice in Ponoka on Oct. 16, 2026.
