Wood Buffalo RCMP traffic advisory Hwy 63 Southbound – Update

Fort McMurray, Alta. – On Oct. 20, 2026 at approximately 9:30hrs, Wood Buffalo RCMP were travelling southbound on Highway 63 near Beacon Hill when a passenger in a police vehicle suffered a medical emergency. As the officer attempted to safely stop and assist the passenger, a collision occurred between the police vehicle and a second RCMP vehicle that was following. The collision did not involve any other vehicles. 

The passenger and one police officer were transported by ground ambulance to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with non-life- threatening injuries. Both individuals have since been treated and released. 

Wood Buffalo RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Highway 63 has since fully reopened to traffic.
