On April 11, 2026, at 1:50 p.m., a grey Harley Davidson motorcycle lost control and crashed in the eastbound passing (left) lane in an area of the highway that is currently under construction. The rider, a 46-year-old Vancouver man, was seriously hurt.

“In order to fully understand how this crash happened, we need to see more dash camera video and speak to witnesses who saw the minutes leading up to the collision,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “At this time, it does not appear that any other vehicles were involved.”

Highway #1 was closed in the eastbound lanes for just under two hours as police officers conducted their investigation.
