Nothing says motorcycling fun like good weather and a chance to test your skills with some of the finest police motorcycle riders on Vancouver Island.
This Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., BC Highway Patrol is joining ICBC, Saanich Police, Victoria Police, West Shore RCMP and the BC Powersports Dealers Association in hosting a motorcycle skills event at West Shore Town Centre, 2945 Jacklin Road, Langford.
“You will have skilled police officers guiding you through a course that’s based on our own police motorcycle training patterns,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “It’s a fun way to improve your slow-speed skills and make you a much better rider. Plus, it’s completely free.”
The Capital Regional District Motorcycle Skills event has been running for years, but this year’s excellent weather forecast is expected to make the event even more popular and attract over 100 riders.
To be eligible to ride, motorcyclists must bring:
- Their own motorcycle (with active insurance),
- A valid motorcycle licence (Learner riders must bring a supervisor),
- Appropriate basic safety gear including helmet, gloves, footwear, pants and a jacket.
“Our police officers really look forward to this event,” says Corporal McLaughlin. “It’s such a positive atmosphere, and we can’t wait to meet you, talk about motorcycles, and help you improve your skills and make you a safer rider.”
