BC Highway Patrol is putting more commercial truck drivers on notice that if they use BC highways, they had better be compliant with all safety rules and regulations.

From May 12 to 14, 2026, BC Highway Patrol was one of dozens of government agencies that took part in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Road Check.

Normally, BC Highway Patrol officers will deliberately single out commercial vehicles that have obvious or likely defects. However, for the CVSA International Roadcheck, any clearly marked commercial vehicles (licenced in excess of 5000 kg) were checked at random.

BC Highway Patrol focussed its efforts in the Central Region, and particularly the east and west side of Kamloops, along with locations along Highway 5A. A series of 24/7 check stops checked thousands of commercial vehicles and inspected more than 400 (with the help of BC Highway Patrol’s partners) over the three-day period. Here’s what BC Highway Patrol found:

“This is a year-over-year effort where we pool resources to check commercial vehicles on our highways,” says Inspector Rob Nason, Officer in Charge of the BC Highway Patrol Central Region. “The majority of commercial vehicles and drivers that we check are following the rules. We want to support them by enforcing the law against operators who cut corners.”

This year’s CVSA International Road Check was particularly focused on issues like cargo securement and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) tampering or falsification.
