Charges approved in shots fired investigation

On July 22, 2026 at just before 9:00pm, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of multiple shots fired in the area of 112th Avenue and 108th Street, Fort St John, BC.

An initial media release was put out a short time later.

Fort St John RCMP frontline police officers attended and support sections were mobilized for a crime scene that was very large after witness reports said that a black sedan and a pedestrian exchanged gunfire before the black sedan fled the area.  

During the investigation that followed, one man, believed to be the pedestrian, was located with a gunshot wound and taken to hospital for his injuries.  Five residences and one vehicle were hit by the gunfire.  

The injured man was arrested and released from hospital to be lodged in RCMP cells.  Tyrone McGee is facing 1 charge of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and remains in Fort St John RCMP custody at the time of writing. 

The Fort St John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit, Drug Unit, Forensic Identification Section and the Peace-Liard Police Dog Service alongside the Fort St John frontline officers worked hard through the night to be able to support charges against Tyrone McGee and garner additional leads because of the cooperation with the residence of the neighbourhood," said Sergeant Ian Rissanen, Plain Clothes Commander for the Fort St John RCMP.  "An abundance of physical evidence was located throughout the scene and it should only be a matter of time until we identify and locate the occupants of the suspect car that fled."

The Fort St John RCMP continues to investigate and is requesting the public's assistance in locating a black 2016 Subaru Legacy bearing BC licence plate A029WA.  If anyone sees it, please do not approach it, instead immediately report it to your local police agency.
