Police are reaching out to the public for any information that might help advance their investigation into the suspicious fire that damaged Westmount Elementary School last October.

On October 26, 2025, at approximately 12:54 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP responded to a fire at the Westmount Elementary School located at 745 Walkem Road. Kamloops Fire Rescue also attended, extinguishing the flames. The fire was initially deemed suspicious in nature and the Kamloops RCMP General Investigation Support Team took conduct of the investigation.

"I can now confirm that investigators have established that this fire is the result of arson," said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. "The fire appears to have been intentionally set, and we are looking to speak with anyone who might have any information."

Anyone who has any information who has yet to speak with police is urged to connect with investigators. Additionally, anyone with CCTV or dash camera footage from the area in the hours before and after the fire are also asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2025-35751.
