Top five motor vehicle crash locations in Mission

The Mission RCMP Traffic Services Section has identified the following as the top five motor vehicle crash locations within the City of Mission.

(For a list of our most frequently asked traffic questions see our Traffic FAQ page)

Cedar Valley Connector / Hwy 11 / Lougheed Hwy (Turning Lane Area)

Collisions at this location are often caused by excessive speed when approaching the overpass, with drivers failing to slow to the posted 60 km/h zone after the bridge. Drivers may encounter stopped traffic at the lights on Highway 7 with little warning.

Additional contributing factors include:

  • Vehicles merging northbound from London Avenue
  • Drivers cutting into left-turn lanes

Most collisions are rear-end crashes or involve impact with the centre median (no-post barrier).

7th Avenue & Cedar Street

Collisions at this intersection are typically related to traffic light violations or failure to yield.

There are also frequent conflicts involving vehicles entering or exiting the Petro-Canada station.

1st Avenue / Glasgow Avenue / Murray Street

This area commonly experiences collisions caused by vehicles travelling too fast southbound over the overpass.

Drivers who brake suddenly for the traffic light at Horne Street/Glasgow Avenue may lose control, particularly in poor conditions.

Most incidents are rear-end collisions.

Lougheed Highway & Wren Street

Collisions at this location are often linked to:

  • Traffic light violations
  • Vehicles making left turns from nearby businesses (Petro-Canada and KFC) onto Wren Street or Lougheed Highway

Westbound drivers may also accelerate in anticipation of the higher-speed (80 km/h) zone, increasing the risk of collisions

Hurd Street & Lougheed Highway

Collisions here are typically related to:

  • Traffic light violations
  • Failure to yield

There are also frequent issues with drivers attempting to quickly position themselves for the right-turn lane onto Highway 11, leading to conflicts and crashes.

Special Note – Abbotsford–Mission Bridge

Collisions on the bridge are often caused by stalled vehicles or roadway debris, which can lead to sudden slowdowns and rear-end collisions.

Because traffic speeds on the bridge often average around 100 km/h, these incidents can quickly become serious.

Prompt reporting of stalled vehicles or debris is critical to help prevent collisions and ensure emergency crews can respond quickly.
