Smithers RCMP File 2026-1096

A repeat offender is back in custody following a theft at Shoppers Drug Mart earlier this month.

In April, Smithers RCMP responded to a report of a theft involving electronic items from the store. When approached by staff, the suspect allegedly stated, “Well, I’m stealing again,” before leaving the store.

Officers later located the suspect at the temporary overnight sheltering area, where he was identified as Logan Solonas and arrested for theft.

During the arrest, Mr. Solonas resisted and made threats toward our police officer, stating, “I am going to murder you.”

Charges have been approved for:

  • Uttering threats (s. 264.1(1)(a))
  • Theft under $5,000 (s. 334(b))
  • Obstruction (resisting arrest) (s. 129)

Mr. Solonas has been remanded in custody until May 19.

Police are aware that this individual’s repeated behaviour has had an impact on local businesses and community members. Officers requested that he be held in custody given his extensive history. Further updates will be provided as the matter proceeds through the courts, so community is aware of the outcome.

"Incidents like this reflect broader pressures in our community, including repeat offending and complex social challenges," said Staff Sergeant Ryan Law, Detachment Commander, Smithers RCMP.
