Complete a suitability interview
At this stage you'll be assessed on whether you have the qualities, core values, and traits to be an RCMP police officer.
The suitability interview includes a combination of questions that allows us to get to know you better. You will be asked behavioural questions that assess your existing knowledge, skills, and abilities so we can determine whether you demonstrate the qualities needed to perform successfully as an RCMP officer. In every suitability interview, we also conduct a detailed review of your Regular Member Applicant Questionnaire (RMAQ) to help us understand whether any past actions or behaviours may impact your ability to become a police officer.
The RMAQ focuses on honesty. We check your responses carefully to make sure they are truthful.

We'll ask you to make statements about your life and follow up with a background check. Remember to answer all questions accurately and honestly. If you're unsure, or think your answer might not look perfect, don't worry—honesty is what matters most. Giving false information can result in termination of your application.
Post-Suitability interview background checks
Polygraph testing
You could be asked about the honesty of your answers through a pre-employment polygraph test.
Your past and current employers and references will be contacted during the background check. This helps us confirm your answers are consistent and accurate.
