The Integrated Safety and Security Group (ISSG) is a multi-agency team dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the 2025 G7 Leaders' Summit. Led by the RCMP in partnership with other federal, provincial, and local organizations, the group coordinates security efforts to create a secure environment for summit participants, local communities, and visitors.
Partner agencies
The ISSG for the 2025 G7 Leaders' Summit is composed of the:
- Royal Canadian Mounted Police
- Calgary Police Service
- Alberta Sheriffs' Branch (operating under Alberta's Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services)
- Alberta Forestry and Parks' Conservation Officers
- Canadian Armed Forces
Each partner agency contributes specialized expertise and resources, working together to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to summit security. This collaboration is designed to safeguard participants, local communities and visitors throughout the event.
Mandate and responsibilities
The ISSG is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive security measures that address the unique challenges of hosting a major international event.
Its key areas of focus include:
- Security planning and coordination
- The ISSG works closely with various agencies to design and carry out security plans, ensuring all activities are coordinated and aligned with federal, provincial, and local safety protocols.
- Community engagement
- Recognizing the importance of community relations, the ISSG engages with local residents and business owners in Kananaskis and surrounding areas to address questions, provide updates, and ensure open lines of communication throughout the Summit.
- Collaboration with Indigenous communities
- The ISSG is committed to working respectfully with local Indigenous communities, addressing any potential concerns to honour cultural protocols, land stewardship, and support a collaborative approach.
- Emergency preparedness and response
- The ISSG has developed robust emergency response plans in coordination with first responders, health services, and other agencies to ensure a swift and effective response to any incidents.
- Traffic and access control
- To minimize disruptions, the ISSG manages road closures, working with local authorities to help residents and visitors navigate the area safely.
