The RCMP's role at the G7

As Canada hosts the 2025 G7 Leaders' Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, the RCMP's main role is to ensure a safe and secure event for everyone involved, including participants, residents, and visitors. We acknowledge that the Summit will take place on the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy Nations of the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika, and the Stoney Nakoda Nations comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney First Nations, and the Tsuut'ina First Nation. We also acknowledge the Otipemisiwak Métis people and Government (Districts 5 and 6) who reside on this territory and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. Our team works with partners across Canada and internationally to make sure the Summit runs smoothly and safely.

The RCMP's responsibilities at the 2025 G7 Leaders' Summit include:

Safety and security
Protecting the Summit sites, managing restricted areas, and securing access points to keep everyone safe.
Community relations
Working with local communities to address concerns, provide information, and maintain open communication through dedicated outreach.
Risk assessment
Identifying and assessing any potential risks in partnership with other security agencies.
Emergency response
Coordinating with first responders and health services to respond quickly if any emergencies arise.
Traffic and crowd management
Working with local authorities to manage road closures, restricted areas, and crowd control to reduce disruption.

The RCMP is proud to lead the Integrated Safety and Security Group that brings together law enforcement, safety, and security partners to ensure a coordinated and unified approach to the security of the G7 Summit.
