58-year-old sentenced to 14 years in jail following investigation into historical sexual offences

A 58-year-old man from the Tracadie-Sheila area, N.B. has been sentenced in connection with an investigation into historical sexual offences including child pornography.
The investigation, led by the Northeast District RCMP began in 2021 following information received from the public.
In October 2021, members of the Northeast District RCMP, including members of the General Investigations Section, New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit, and RCMP's Digital Forensic Services, executed a search warrant at a residence in the Tracadie-Sheila area in connection with the investigation. A 55-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident, and police seized several electronic devices. He was later released on conditions pending a future court appearance.
On February 28, 2022, the 55-year-old man was charged with sexual assault. He was released on conditions, pending a future court appearance.
On December 5, 2024, the man returned to court and was charged with the following additional offences in connection with the investigation:
-Sexual Interference
-Invitation to sexual touching
-Luring a child
-Possession of child pornography
-Making child pornography
-Transmitting child pornography
On December 9, 2024, he plead guilty to the 2022 charge of sexual assault charge and on March 20, 2025, he plead guilty to the additional charges that were laid in December 2024.
On April 1, 2025, the individual appeared in Court of King’s Bench and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years, and to provide a DNA sample. He will be prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years and will be prohibited from owning a restricted or prohibited firearm for life. Upon his release, he will also have to abide by conditions set out by the court, including not communicating with anyone under the age of 16, and to not attend any place that someone under the age of 16 is known to be for a period of 20 years.
As set by the Courts, a publication ban was ordered to protect the identity of the victims.
