A 52-year-old man from Fredericton, N.B., has been sentenced in connection with a number of break, enter and thefts in Yoho Lake, in 2024.
On June 15, 2024, members of the Keswick RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence in Yoho Lake where an individual had gained entry to the home and threatened the homeowners before fleeing the scene. Police later confirmed that the same individual was responsible for two other break-ins in the area.
On July 3, 2024, police released an appeal to the public for assistance in identifying the suspect.
On September 23, 2024, a member of the Oromocto RCMP responded to a report of a stranded motorist on Route 2 in Coles Island. The responding member recognized the motorist as being the suspect sought in the break, enter and theft investigations, and the man was arrested without incident. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police located a large quantity of pharmaceutical grade opioids and stolen mail items.
On March 31, 2025, George Edward Pearce appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court, and plead guilty to the following charges:
- Seven counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
- Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
On May 30, 2025, George Edward Pearce was sentenced to a total of five years and two months in prison. He is also prohibited from owning firearms for life and was ordered to submit a DNA sample.
