The Codiac Regional RCMP is aware of concerns raised by residents, business owners, and employees in the Moncton region regarding homelessness and open drug use in the community.
The Codiac Regional RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit conducts regular patrols throughout the region and will be increasing those patrols in response to community concerns. These proactive measures will help to enhance safety and security for all members of the community.
“Homelessness and addiction are not crimes,” says Superintendent Benoit Jolette, Officer in Charge of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “They are complex societal issues that cannot be solved by enforcement alone. While police play an important role, we have to work together with our community and our partners to address the root causes of these issues.”
The RCMP continues to work diligently with municipalities, government agencies, and community organizations to develop and support solutions that address the many factors contributing to homelessness and drug addiction. Those who are experiencing homelessness and addictions issues remain citizens of our communities, and the RCMP is committed to ensuring respectful and fair interactions in all circumstances.
We understand the frustration that these ongoing challenges present and want to assure the public that the RCMP continues to take action. The safety and security of all people in the Greater Moncton region remains our priority.
If you have concerns about criminal activity or safety in your neighbourhood, please contact your local police, or call 911 if it is an emergency. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
