The Codiac Regional RCMP recognizes that the increase in panhandling across the Greater Moncton region has raised concerns for residents, business owners, and motorists.

We recognize that factors such as the escalating cost of living, housing challenges, and mental health struggles have contributed to an increase in homelessness and panhandling across the province and in our city. The safety concerns that panhandling presents are an issue the RCMP is working diligently with the community to address.

Panhandling on or near roadways presents significant risks both for the individuals panhandling and for drivers. Our members are working to identify high-risk areas for panhandling and engage directly with individuals in those areas to encourage them to access services and supports available in the community.

The Codiac Regional RCMP strongly advises against engaging with individuals panhandling in dangerous locations, such as busy intersections or roadways. This ensures not only your safety as a driver but also the safety of the individuals panhandling.

We understand that members of the public want to help those in need, and we encourage community members to consider safe and sustainable alternatives.

The RCMP remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that address the needs and dignity of those most vulnerable, while also ensuring the safety of the public. By continuing to work closely with community partners and organizations, we can foster positive change and create sustainable solutions.
