As the investigation unfolded, police determined the incident to be a robbery, rather than an assault with a weapon. On February 19, 2026, 32-year-old Kevin Leger from Moncton, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison, minus time served, on a count of robbery and several counts of theft and shoplifting. In addition to his prison time, he will be prohibited from possessing weapons for ten years and required to submit a DNA sample.
