The New Brunswick RCMP has requested the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), an independent agency, to review police actions following a shooting incident involving RCMP members on Neqotkuk (Tobique) First Nation, N.B.
On January 18, 2026, at approximately 5:06 p.m., members from the Perth Andover RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on Main Street on Neqotkuk First Nation. As the situation quickly evolved, a man armed with an edged weapon advanced towards members. A Conducted Energy Weapon (taser) was deployed ineffectively, and a member discharged their firearm at the man. First aid was immediately administered at the scene, and the man was taken to hospital where he later died.
The New Brunswick RCMP is committed to being accountable and transparent to the communities it serves and has referred the incident to SiRT for an independent investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
