Man arrested following fatal motor vehicle incident

A 33-year-old man from Bas-Caraquet, N.B., has been arrested in connection with a fatal motor vehicle incident in the community.

On February 15, 2026, at approximately 3:10 a.m., members of the Caraquet RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle incident on a trail near Rue Richard in Bas-Caraquet. 

A 42-year-old woman from Dieppe was found unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of her injuries. At this time, investigators believe that the woman fell from the passenger side of a moving truck.

The uninjured driver, a 33-year-old man from Bas-Caraquet, was showing sings of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the local RCMP detachment to provide breath samples. The man was later released on conditions pending a future court appearance.

Members of the Bas-Caraquet Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office, and NB RCMP Forensic Identification Services are assisting with the investigation.
