35-year-old man arrested in connection with shooting incident

The Codiac Regional RCMP have arrested a 35-year-old man from Alberta in connection with a shooting incident in Dieppe, N.B.

On March 17, 2026, at approximately 12:13 a.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of gun shots on Gauvin Street and Thomas Street, in Dieppe. A motorist reported to police that they were being chased by another vehicle, hearing what sounded like gunshots and something striking their vehicle. When police arrived, they observed what appeared to be bullet holes on the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle. 

While searching for the suspect’s vehicle, a white Mercedes SUV, they located the vehicle matching the description provided by the victim. The driver of the vehicle, who was known to police, was arrested by police and a subsequent search of the vehicle located quantities of what is believed to be a controlled substance. The driver, a 35-year-old man from Alberta, was arrested without incident. 

Later that day, 35-year-old Jarrett Mackenzie appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was placed in the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre. Shortly after, he tried to escape the jail but was quickly apprehended. 

On March 25, 2026, 35-year-old Jarrett Mackenzie appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to wound and reckless discharging of a firearm. The charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking laid on March 17, 2026, was dismissed. He was remanded into custody until his next court appearance scheduled for April 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. 

Anyone who witnessed this event or has video footage of the incident that occurred on March 17, 2026, between 12 and 12:30 a.m., is asked to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400. Police are particularly interested in a white 2019 Mercedes GLC that was seen in the area of Sorbonne Street and Jeannette Street in Dieppe. The investigation is ongoing.
