A 39-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, both from Nova Scotia, have been charged in connection with an attempted murder in Moncton, N.B.

On April 17, 2026, at approximately 3:45 a.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a man who had been shot with a crossbow. As police were arriving at the scene, three suspects attempted to flee in a pickup truck and a pursuit was initiated. The victim was transported to hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The suspects fled toward Memramcook and came to a stop near a wooded area after a tire deflation device was successfully deployed by police. The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old man from Nova Scotia, was arrested while the other two suspects fled on food. RCMP Police Dog Services attended and initiated a track. After a short time, a second suspect, a 38-year-old man from Nova Scotia, was located and arrested. Subsequent to the arrests, police searched the pickup truck and seized a crossbow.

Later the same day, 39-year-old Allistair Hemphill appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Flight from police involving a pursuit
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Failure to comply with a probation order

38-year-old Christopher Mackay also appeared in Moncton provincial court and was charged with attempted murder.

A police operation was conducted the same day on Route 106 between Dieppe and Memramcook, in connection with the investigation. This operation included members of the Codiac Regional RCMP and Crime Reduction Unit, Southeast District RCMP, RCMP Air Services, the Emergency Response Team, and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (drone) operator. Additional evidence was gathered as a result of the operation, which concluded at approximately 2:30 p.m. on April 17.

Both men returned to court on April 21 and were remanded into custody. Hemphill will return to court on April 30and Mackay will return to court on May 5.
