The Oromocto RCMP is advising the public of an increase in thefts from vehicles in the Oromocto, N.B., region.
Since April 26, 2026, police have received multiple reports of vehicles being entered and rummaged through, with various personal items stolen. In some cases, stolen property has included military equipment.
As a result, Oromocto RCMP members will be increasing overnight proactive patrols in affected areas. Police will also be deploying a drone to assist officers in locating and arresting individuals responsible for these incidents.
Police are reminding the public that many of these thefts are crimes of opportunity and can often be prevented by taking a few simple precautions:
- Always lock your vehicle doors, even when parked at home
- Remove valuables from your vehicle or store them out of sight
- Avoid leaving keys, garage door openers, or identification inside your vehicle
- Ensure your vehicle is parked in a well-lit area when possible
- Report any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood to police
Anyone witnessing a theft in progress is asked to call 911 immediately.
To report a theft from your vehicle or other non-emergency incidents, a report can be submitted through the online crime reporting system. For more information on online crime reporting, or to file a report, visit https://rcmp.ca/en/nb/services-and-information/online-crime-reporting-new-brunswick
The Oromocto RCMP continue to investigate these incidents.
