An individual has been charged in connection with copper wire theft in Springdale, N.B.
On May 26, 2026, at approximately 12:35 p.m., members of the Sussex RCMP were called to a theft of wire at a commercial property on Route 114 in Springdale. When police arrived, the individual had already fled the scene in a vehicle.
Shortly after, police located the vehicle at a residence on Knightville Road in Mount Pisgah and arrested a 38-year-old man without incident. The individual was also wanted on three outstanding endorsed warrants. Police seized the vehicle as part of the investigation.
On May 27, 2026, 38-year-old Eric Lewis, from Westmorland, appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and pled guilty to mischief under $5000 and trafficking of property obtained by crime. He was released from custody and scheduled to return to court for sentencing on July 22. 2026.
“Copper wire theft goes beyond property crime,” says Sergeant Ben Comley of the Sussex RCMP. “It endangers the community, disrupts critical infrastructure, and poses serious risks to those involved.”
