Man sentenced following dangerous driving incident

A man has been sentenced following a traffic-related incident in Oak Bay that was identified by members of the St. Stephen RCMP while conducting proactive patrols.

On May 18, 2026, members of the St. Stephen RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in Oak Bay when they observed a vehicle being operated in a dangerous manner, raising concerns for public safety. 

Police activated their emergency lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to stop and fled the area at high speed. Members were able to quickly locate the vehicle and successfully deployed a spike belt, which safely disabled the vehicle and brought it to a stop. The driver, a 39-year-old man, then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly arrested and taken into custody.

On May 19, 2026, 39-year-old Ryan Beaumaster appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and operating a vehicle while being prohibited. He was remanded into custody, pending a future court appearance. 

On July 16, 2026, Ryan Beaumaster appeared in Saint John Provincial Court, was sentenced to 14 months in jail. In addition, he will be prohibited from operating a vehicle for six years. 

“This investigation highlights the important work our frontline officers do every day to keep our roads and communities safe,” said Sgt. Pierre Ladouceur with the St. Stephen RCMP. “Through proactive patrols, our officers identified dangerous driving behaviour, launched an investigation, and successfully brought the matter before the courts. The vigilance and dedication demonstrated by our members reflect our ongoing commitment to road safety and protecting the public.”
