The New Brunswick RCMP has arrested a 66-year-old man, and charges have been laid following an investigation in the community of Val D’amour, N.B.
On September 3, 2026, while investigating an unrelated matter, members of the Campbellton RCMP received information that a 66-year-old man was in possession of firearms while prohibited.
On September 16, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., members of the Campbellton RCMP, the New Brunswick RCMP’s Northeast District Community Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services executed a search warrant at residence on Val D’amour Road, in Val D’amour, N.B., in connection with the prohibited firearms investigation.
Early in the search, police discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia in the residence. The search was briefly suspended while another search warrant was obtained in connection with the substances and items found by police, unrelated to the initial warrant. Following the execution of the search warrants, police seized quantities of what are believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, psilocybin, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, firearms, ammunition, brass knuckles, and an undisclosed amount of currency.
A 66-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident. On September 16, 2026, Claude Joseph Levesque appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court and was charged with failure to comply with a release order and possession contrary to an order. He was remanded into custody.
On September 28, 2026, Claude Joseph Levesque reappeared in court for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court on October 19, 2026, to enter a plea.
The New Brunswick’s Integrated Enforcement Unit (IEU) assisted with the investigation and is made up of members from the New Brunswick RCMP, as well as municipal police and Justice and Public Safety officers in the province. These efforts aim to improve the coordinated response to the growing concerns of drugs and firearms within New Brunswick.
The public plays an important role in helping to reduce, prevent and solve crime, including the trafficking of illegal drugs. Anyone with information about, or who suspects, illegal drug activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact their local police.
The investigation is ongoing.
