The Grand Bay-Westfield and Hampton RCMP detachments have made a drug seizure, and charges have been laid against a 40-year-old man in Saint John, N.B.

On October 14, 2026, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a member of the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP detachment attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling southbound on Route 7 near Grand Bay-Westfield. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, failed to stop for police and continued towards Saint John at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, members of the Hampton RCMP detachment located the vehicle on Route 1 in the Saint John area, and the vehicle was subsequently pulled over. During to their investigation police arrested a 40-year-old man, and quantities of suspected fentanyl and an amount of cash were seized.

On October 15, 2026, 40-year-old Ranjinder Singh Sandhu, of Richmond, British Columbia, appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with flight from police and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on October 19, 2026, for a bail hearing.

“Fentanyl continues to have devastating impacts on individuals, families and communities across the province,” said Sergeant Ben Comley from the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP. “The use of illegal drugs carries significant risks. There are highly dangerous and potentially lethal substances currently in circulation, and individuals cannot be certain of what a substance may contain.”

The investigation is ongoing.
