A 30-year-old man from Nova Scotia has been charged in connection with an investigation into child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The investigation, led by the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, began in December 2023, following information received from a federal prison in New Brunswick regarding an inmate.

On February 14, 2024, members of the New Brunswick RCMP ICE Unit, members of the RCMP Central Region Ottawa Serious and Organized Crime and the RCMP's Digital Forensic Services worked collaboratively in executing a search warrant to search a cellphone.

Following the investigation, on June 27, 2024, a 30-year-old man from Nova Scotia was arrested at a federal prison while serving a previous sentence.

On October 2, 2024, Jeremy Christian Thompson was charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

On March 4,5,6, 2026, he appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was found guilty to possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

On October 7, 2026, Jeremy Christian Thompson was sentenced to three years in prison. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for life and to provide a DNA sample. Following his release from prison, he will have to abide by conditions set out by the court for a period of 20 years.

The New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members from the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force.
