Hay River RCMP execute search warrant, seize firearms

Hay River RCMP have seized several firearms after executing a search warrant at a residence.

In early February, 2025, Hay River RCMP received information that a person had been assaulted in the community at a residence on Woodland Drive. An investigation was launched, during the course of which officers learned that a person had also been threatened with firearm at the same residence.

A warrant to search this residence was obtained and executed by Hay River detachment with assistance from the “G” Division Emergency Response Team in the early morning hours of February 14^th. The search yielded one long gun, believed to be the weapon used in the offence, as well as two “pen guns” and other evidence.

4 people were detained during the search and subsequently released. The suspect was not present and has not been located.

As a result, a warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Herbert Pekok has been issued. He has been charged with:

• Pointing a firearm, contrary to section 87(1) of the Criminal Code
• Unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a weapon while knowing its possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code
• Tampering with the serial number of a firearm, contrary to section 108(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Unsafe Storage of firearms, contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code

Herbert is described as an indigenous male, approximately 5’9” tall and 195lbs.
