Fort Smith RCMP are investigating a fatal snowmobile collision in a remote wilderness area.
On April 5th, 2026, Fort Smith RCMP received a report that a collision had occurred between two snowmobiles approximately 420km east of the community, near the Saskatchewan border. One of the riders suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the other rider suffered a fatal injury and had died.
The riders were part of a group of hunters from Saskatchewan. The group has since evacuated from the area.
An investigation is ongoing in partnership with officers from Saskatchewan RCMP as well as Coroner’s Services from both the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan.
