On April 7th, while conducting patrols of the community, officers in Tuktoyaktuk became aware of suspicious activity at a residence in town consistent with bootlegging. An investigation was launched into the matter.
Officers formed grounds to believe that the sale of alcohol was occurring at the location and subsequently entered the residence and conducted a search in accordance with the provisions of the Liquor Act.
As a result, over 12 liters of vodka was seized, well in excess of the permitted allotment for individuals in the community. Officers believe much of the original stock had been sold before the seizure.
A 59-year-old Tuktoyaktuk man was issued summary offence tickets for:
• Keeping liquor for sale, contrary to section 74(b) of the Liquor Act
• Possession of spirits exceeding 2280mL, contrary to section 2 of the Tuktoyaktuk Liquor Restriction regulations
He will appear in court in Tuktoyaktuk on June 2nd, 2026.
Tuktoyaktuk RCMP remains committed to addressing the harm bootlegging causes the community and encourages the public to share any information they may have about these activities with police.
