Inuvik RCMP lay drug charges after executing search warrant

Police in Inuvik have charged two people after executing a search warrant on Tuesday.

On May 5th, as part of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation, officers in Inuvik, with assistance from G Division’s Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, executed a search warrant at an apartment on Bompas Street.

Several people were safely taken into custody. A subsequent search of the residence lead to the seizure of a quantity of suspected crack-cocaine, over $8000 in cash and other items associated with drug trafficking.

21-year-old Jai Nayyar of Ontario and 24-year-old Abdikarim Bashir Muhumad of Alberta have both been charged with:

• Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Obstructing a peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

They appeared for bail hearings and were remanded into custody.
