The Behchokǫ̀ RCMP seized approximately three kilograms of suspected cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop.
On Sunday, May 24th, at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers of the Behchokǫ̀ RCMP conducted a traffic stop near North Arm Park, on Highway 3, with a vehicle registered in Alberta.
During the traffic stop, officers formed reasonable grounds to believe that the driver and lone occupant was engaged in drug trafficking activity, and she was subsequently arrested.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of three kilograms of suspected cocaine, $1,500 in Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia.
As a result of this investigation, 32-year-old Beth Mulligan, of Alberta, has been charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule I: cocaine, in violation of section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Beth Mulligan has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 28th.
“The RCMP in the Northwest Territories is committed in preventing illegal drugs from entering our communities and this significant seizure is yet another great example of the work our officers are doing to support our communities”, says Sergeant James Lai, Acting Officer in Charge of South District.
The investigation is ongoing.
