Yellowknife RCMP seize 23 firearms after executing search warrant

Police in Yellowknife seized a large number of firearms from a residence as part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity yesterday.
On June 4, as part of an ongoing investigation pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Yellowknife RCMP’s General Investigation Section, with assistance from General Duty officers and Police Dog Services executed a search warrant at a residence on Hordal Road.
10 people inside the residence were taken into custody during the search, which resulted in the seizure of 21 long guns and two handguns, as well as a quantity of cash and other paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking activity. No drugs were located.
70-year-old Lennard Plantz of Yellowknife has been charged with:
• Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence, contrary to section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
Mr. Plantz was released to appear in court at a later date.
A 57-year-old male who had an active warrant for his arrest was also released to appear in court at a later date.
The remaining 8 individuals were released without charge.
