On July 11th, the Whatì RCMP executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of suspected drug and drug paraphernalia, after receiving a report in relation to alleged drug trafficking activities at a residence in the community.
Based on the information received, RCMP officers formed grounds to launch a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation. A search warrant was requested.
At approximately 8:42 p.m., on July 11th, the Whatì RCMP executed the search warrant at the residence, with support from Behchokǫ̀ RCMP, the Northwest Territories RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems.
Six individuals were inside the residence and taken into custody without incident. RCMP officers conducted a thorough search of the residence and located evidence of illegal drug trafficking, including three ledgers, a scale with residue on it and 260 grams of a light brown substance believed to be a controlled drug and/or substance which has been seized and sent to a lab for testing.
Of the six individuals taken into custody, five were released on site without charges. The sixth person was taken to the detachment and later released pending the lab results from the unknown substance. Charges may be laid following the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Whatì RCMP would like to thank the community members and the leadership for their continuous support in disrupting the illicit drug trade.
