Délı̨nę RCMP seize drugs and cash after executing a search warrant

A call for disturbance led the Délı̨nę RCMP to the discovery of drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash, and to the arrest of an Ontario youth.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., on July 13th, the Délı̨nę RCMP received a call regarding disturbance at the local grocery store. Officers responded to the scene and located the individual responsible for the disturbance, a 17-year-old youth.

While questioning the youth, officers formed grounds to believe that he was lying about his identity. In addition, the youth refused to cooperate and attempted to obstruct the officers’ work.

The youth was subsequently arrested and searched. Officers found on him $9,735 in Canadian currency and a bag containing 110 grams of cannabis.

The youth was detained, and a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act was granted to search a residence in Délı̨nę where he was believed to be staying.

RCMP officers attended the residence and located various types of drug trafficking paraphernalia and a small bag of suspected cocaine.

As a result, RCMP charged the 17-year-old youth with:

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of substance included in Schedule I: cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis, contrary to section 8(1) of the Cannabis Act
- Obstruction of a peace officer in the execution of his duty, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

The youth is set to be released from custody to an adult and will be bound by a Release Order including the condition not to return to Délı̨nę except for court purposes.
