Fort Liard RCMP investigating fatal hit and run

The Fort Liard RCMP is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday, August 8th, 2026.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. on August 8th, Fort Liard RCMP received an initial report of a motor vehicle collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Valley Main Street.

RCMP officers attended the scene, and located the victim, a 52-year-old man, deceased.

According to preliminary information, the victim was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene after the collision.

The Fort Liard RCMP started an investigation, with support from G Division Forensics Identification Services and Remote Piloted Aircraft System, and from British Columbia RCMP. The Northwest Territories Coroner Service is also assisting with this investigation. A search for the vehicle and driver, in collaboration with Northern Rockies RCMP and Fort Simpson RCMP, is ongoing.
